Breast Reduction.

Feel More Comfortable & Confident!

Breast Reduction, or reduction mammaplasty, helps millions of women overcome physical and emotional discomfort every year. This procedure was designed to remove excess breast fat, tissue, and skin to achieve a smaller size and natural contour that complements your activity level, comfort, and natural proportions while relieving the discomfort associated with very large breasts.

At North Shore Center for Plastic Surgery, our plastic surgeons are dedicated to your comfort and healthy recovery. You lead the course of your journey, and with the latest technology and techniques available, Drs. Cohen-Kashi and Lin can help you achieve a more comfortable and flattering bust for your body.

Ideal candidates for breast reduction surgery are people who:

  • Have excess breast tissue
  • Want to balance out breasts that are a different shape or size
  • Are non-smokers
  • Have a healthy weight
  • Are in reasonably good health and have realistic expectations
Breast reduction is a highly individualized procedure and you should do it for yourself, not to fulfill someone else’s desires or to try to fit any sort of ideal image. Breast reduction is a good option for you if:

  • You are physically healthy
  • You have realistic expectations
  • You are bothered by the feeling that your breasts are too large
  • Your breasts limit your physical activity
  • You experience back, neck and shoulder pain caused by the weight of your breasts
  • You have regular indentations from bra straps that support heavy, pendulous breasts
  • You have skin irritation beneath the breast crease
  • Your breasts hang low and have stretched skin
  • Your nipples rest below the breast crease when your breasts are unsupported
  • You have enlarged areolas caused by stretched skin
  • Reduce size & weight of breasts
  • Improve self-esteem
  • Eliminate back, shoulder, and neck pain
  • Improved posture
  • Enhance position & contour of breasts
Following breast reductions, patients can expect to enjoy smaller, lighter breasts for the remainder of their lifetimes, providing that they maintain a healthy weight and do not have additional children. Future pregnancies can change the size, shape, and sag of breasts. However, as patients age, their breasts may shift, sag, or otherwise adjust. Bra sizes are rarely permanent and as with breasts that have not been surgically corrected, patients should be measured and sized on a regular basis.
Dr. Lin and Dr. Cohen-Kashi perform breast reduction in Long Island, NY. The surgery can take between two – four hours, and general anesthesia is used. There are several possible locations where the incision can be placed. Dr. Lin and Dr. Cohen-Kashi can elaborate on the possible locations during your consultation. After the tissue is removed, the incisions are closed and stitched.
Immediately after surgery, patients may experience soreness, stiffness, and fatigue for several days. In some cases drainage tubes may also be inserted to help remove any excess fluid. These are removed within one – two days after surgery. Bandages are removed several days after your procedure.

You may experience swelling and bruising for several weeks, but any pain is controlled with medication. Breasts may also feel hard, but they will eventually soften as you continue to heal. Although physical activity should be limited for several weeks, patients are able to return to work and normal activities within a few days.

In some cases, such as those with demonstrated need, your medical insurance may partially or fully cover the cost of breast reduction surgery. Contact your insurance company directly to find out if they would cover the cost of breast reduction surgery at North Shore Center for Plastic Surgery. If not, additional financing options are available here.

The First Step: Choose a Surgeon You Can Trust

Plastic surgery involves many choices. The first and most important is selecting a surgeon you can trust. A doctor’s board certification is one of the best indicators of his or her training.

Lawrence C. Lin, MD and K. Jacob Cohen-Kashi, MD are certified by the The American Board of Plastic Surgery® (ABPS) and are members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

The Results Will Be Long-Lasting

The results of breast reduction surgery will be long lasting. Your new breast size should help relieve from the pain and limitations experienced prior to breast reduction. Your better proportioned figure will likely enhance your self image and boost your self confidence.

How Much Will Breast Reduction Cost?

Cost is always a consideration in elective surgery. Prices for breast reduction can vary widely. A surgeon’s cost for breast reduction may vary on his or her experience as well as geographic office location. If your surgery is not covered by insurance, we offer patient financing plans, so be sure to ask.

Cost may include:

  • Surgeon’s fee
  • Surgical or Hospital facility costs
  • Anesthesia fees
  • Prescriptions for medication
  • Post-surgery garments and medical tests

Your satisfaction involves more than a fee. Please remember that your surgeon’s experience and your comfort with him or her are just as important as the final cost of the surgery.
